Michael Chidubem

To celebrate his birthday in 2017, Michael released an Instrumental version of Frank Edwards' hit track OKAKA. Michael Chidubem (popularly known by friends as MIKE 'BERE) was born in Lagos, Nigeria to a Nigerian father and a Ghanaian mother. As a young child, he played the percussions during church services where his father was the presiding pastor. His first contact with music was when he saw a box guitar at a friend’s house. He would play with the stings attempting to make meaningful music from the dis-tuned strings. He would go ahead to enroll as a tenor singer in 1985 at The Redeemed Evangelical Mission, (TREM) which was then located in Akoka, Lagos just to be close to professional music and musicians. This gave him the needed access to the church instrumentalists who were a great source of inspiration. By 1988, he was already playing the drums so well to be a part of the music department of TREM known as The Evangel Voices. His passion for music saw him practicing vigorously and regularly. By 1991, he was known as one of the best drummers and had caught the interest of many local bands and artists. He was also prolific on other instruments. In 1997, he joined the City of David, a parish of The Redeemed Christian Church of God as a bass player. This was where his romance with Bass guitar started and blossomed.
